Dr. Dewi Fortuna Anwar is a research professor at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences’ Center for Political Studies. She has served in an advisory capacity to several vice presidents of Indonesia, including as the deputy secretary for political affairs for Vice President Boediono, and deputy for government policy support to Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla. In 1998-1999, Anwar served as assistant minister of state secretariat for foreign affairs under President B.J. Habibie. She is also the chairman of the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights at the Habibie Center, a private think tank in Jakarta, and has been a member of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences since 2015.
Anwar received her Ph.D. from the department of politics and history at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. She has worked as a Congressional fellow at the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C. She was a member of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission from 2004 to 2008, and a member of the UN Secretary General’s advisory board on disarmament matters from 2008 to 2012. She is also a member of the Governing Board of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
