Mr. Robert McFarlane was the national security advisor under President Reagan from 1983 to 1985. In 1982, President Reagan appointed McFarlane as deputy national security advisor, and in 1983, he was appointed as the president’s special representative in the Middle East. After his retirement in 1985, McFarlane founded his own company, Global Energy Investors (GEI), a developer of energy infrastructure projects in Asia and South America.

McFarlane passed away on May 12, 2022.

Ms. Jamie McGurk is an independent film producer and the owner of Off Balance Productions. She is the co-founder of SeaChange Communications, a political communications company specializing in non-traditional communications for the political and nonprofit arenas. In 2008, she and her business partner, Victoria Hopper, produced the SeaChange Ideas Forum, an event featuring presentations on a range of progressive issues and attended by influential figures such as Ben Affleck, Arianna Huffington and U.S Representative Barney Frank. McGurk is the former co-president and current trustee of the California State Summer School for the Arts. She has donated her time as a marketing consultant for Film Independent and The H.E.L.P. Group and is a former trustee of The Motion Picture & Television Fund.

Retired General Merrill A. McPeak is a former chief of staff of the United States Air Force. McPeak entered the U.S. Air Force in November 1957 and was a fighter pilot during his early years. Since retiring from the Air Force, he has directed a number of private companies. McPeak received a bachelor’s degree in economics from San Diego State College and a master’s degree in international relations from George Washington University. He currently serves as chairman of the American Battle Monuments Commission and recently acted as an advisor to the PBS film “The Vietnam War.”

David Miliband is president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee. He stepped down as a member of the British Parliament in 2013 after more than a decade of service. During his parliamentary career, he held a variety of positions including cabinet office minister, minister of state for communities and local government and secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs. In 2007, he was appointed foreign secretary, a position he held until 2010. He is also the founder of the Center for European Reform and the co-chair of the Global Ocean Commission. Prior to his time in parliament, he worked as head of Prime Minister Tony Blair’s Policy Unit in Downing Street.

Ambassador Yoshiki Mine entered into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 1968 and retired in 2009. He served as director general for international relations at the Ministry of Defense, ambassador to Yugoslavia, ambassador in charge of Global Environment and permanent representative of Japan at the Conference on Disarmament. Mine was also the chief representative of Japan for the normalization negotiations with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and served as research director at the Canon Institute for Global Studies until 2014.

Ambassador Abdul Samad Minty is a deputy director-general of South Africa’s Department of Foreign Affairs and South Africa’s representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s board of governors. He is a chairperson of the South African Council for the Nonproliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and representative of the Department of Foreign Affairs on South Africa’s National Conventional Arms Control Committee. Previously, Minty served as a chairperson of the Nuclear Suppliers Group and as a member of the UN secretary-general’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters. From 1979 until 1994, he held the position of director of the World Campaign against Military and Nuclear Collaboration with South Africa. Minty is also known for his work as an anti-Apartheid activist, having served as the honorary secretary of the British Anti-Apartheid Movement for more than 30 years.

Ambassador Brajesh Mishra was the first national security advisor to Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. Appointed shortly after India’s 1998 nuclear tests, he worked to assuage the developing tensions between India and China. He was able to draw on his vast experience as head of the Indian Embassy in Beijing where, in May 1970, Chinese leader Mao Zedong famously told Mishra that India and China “must become friends again.” He also served as ambassador to Indonesia and as India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, where he worked for a time on the staff of the UN secretary-general. Mishra passed away on September 28, 2012.

Mishra was a member of the Global Zero Commission.

First Lady Danielle Mitterrand was the wife of François Mitterrand, president of France from 1981 to 1995. Mitterrand was active in the French Resistance during the Second World War, and was honored with the French Patriot Medal for her work. As First Lady, she launched many initiatives promoting freedom and human rights. She received numerous awards, including for her work to end apartheid and her action in support of the Kurdish and Tibetan people. In 1986, Mitterrand created Frances Libertés, a foundation focused on three main programs: water, rethinking wealth and human rights.

Danielle Mitterrand passed away in 2011.
