Retired Rear Admiral Yang Yi is the former director and current research fellow at the Institute for Strategic Studies at China’s National Defense University. He joined the Chinese navy in 1968 and has held various positions since, including naval technical assistance expert to the navy of Cameroon, director of the People’s Liberation Army’s Navy Foreign Affairs Bureau and international policy advisor to the commander-in-chief of the PLA navy. From 1995 to 2000, he served as the naval attaché in the Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC. Retiring after more than 40 years in the Chinese navy, Yang is considered an expert on national security and military strategy, international relations and foreign policy.

Major General (ret.) Yao Yunzhu is director of the Center on China-American Defense Relations and senior researcher at the Asia-Pacific Office in the Department of World Studies, both at the People’s Liberation Army’s Academy of Military Science in China. A prominent analyst of nuclear issues, she has published and translated numerous books and articles on military and security issues. She first joined the PLA in 1970. In 2007, she was elected as a member of the 17th CCP Congress and was chosen as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Women in China.

Yao is a member of the Nuclear Crisis Group and the Global Zero Commission on Nuclear Risk Reduction.

Major General Zhu Chenghu is a professor of strategic studies at the National Defense University of China. He has published several books, focusing on Sino-U.S. relations and Asia-Pacific security.

Zhu is a member of the Nuclear Crisis Group and the Global Zero Commission on Nuclear Risk Reduction.

General Anthony Zinni is a retired four-star general of the United States Marine Corps. He is former commander in chief of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) where, from 1997 to 2000, he was responsible for all U.S. forces in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia. In 2002, he was appointed to one of the highest U.S. diplomatic posts, serving as special envoy for the United States to the Middle East. Zinni is currently a distinguished senior advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Retired Major General Pavel Zolotarev is the deputy director of the Institute for U.S. and Canada Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences and a professor at the Academy of Military Sciences. He previously served as head of the Information and Analysis Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense and deputy chief of staff of the Defense Council of Russia.

Zolotarev is a member of the Global Zero NATO-Russia Commission.
