Ambassador Abdel Raouf El Reedy is a lawyer and the co-founder and chairman of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs. He is also a member of the Egyptian Pugwash Group, and was a member of the international advisory board of the Council on Foreign Relations. He served for eight years as the Egyptian Ambassador to the United States, and has held other diplomatic posts at the UN, the Arab League Secretariat, and as Egypt’s ambassador to Pakistan. He has represented Egypt in numerous international fora, including at the UN Conference on Trade and Development and the UN Conference on Disarmament.

Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei is the former director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and a co-recipient of the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. ElBaradei served as the head of the IAEA for three consecutive terms, as well as the IAEA’s legal adviser and assistant director general for external relations. Previously, he was an adjunct professor at the New York University School of Law, a special assistant to the Egyptian foreign minister and a delegate at the Permanent Missions of Egypt to the United Nations in New York and in Geneva. He also briefly served as the vice president of Egypt in 2013.

ElBaradei is the recipient of numerous prizes for his efforts for peace and on nuclear issues, which include the 2008 Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace and, together with the IAEA, the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize.

Ambassador Tetsuya Endo was an accomplished Japanese diplomat and public servant. A graduate of Tokyo University, he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving in the United Kingdom and Mexico. He became a governor of the International Atomic Energy Association and later the vice chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of Japan in 2001. He was also an executive director of the Japanese Institute of International Affairs.

Endo passed away in December 2019.

Ambassador Peter Gottwald served as the federal government commissioner for disarmament and arms control of Germany. He was previously the permanent representative of Germany to the United Nations and served in the U.S. and U.K. embassies for many years. Gottwald entered into the German Foreign Service in 1977 after working for the U.N. Development Program in Nigeria. He has long been involved with efforts toward nonproliferation, serving as the secretary for disarmament and security policy in the German Embassy in Washington in 1987 and going on to serve as deputy head for the Conference on Disarmament with the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Recently, he has been active with various organizations including the Global Security Institute, the British American Security Information Council and the Center for Strategic Decision Research. He has served in leadership roles at both the German Association of International Procedural Law, and the International Association of Procedural Law.

Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr. is internationally known as one of the leading authorities in the field of international arms control and nonproliferation agreements. He has served as a senior U.S. diplomat involved in the negotiation of every major international arms control and nonproliferation agreement during the period 1970 to 1997.

In 1993, Graham served as acting director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency (ACDA). From 1994 through 1997, he served as the president’s special representative for arms control, nonproliferation and disarmament. He is currently director and chairman of the board of Lightbridge.

Ambassador Efraim Halevy is head of the Shasha Center for Strategic Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s School of Public Policy and Government. Halevy served as head of the Mossad from 1998 to 2002 under Prime Ministers Netanyahu, Barak and Sharon, capping a 40-year career in the Israel Intelligence Service. He has also served as Israel’s ambassador to the European Union from 1996 to 1998 and as national security advisor from 2002 to 2003. In 2002, he was awarded the Director’s Award of the CIA for his commitment to the relationship between Israel and the United States.

Ambassador Hua Liming is a distinguished research fellow at the China Institute of International Studies. He is the former Chinese ambassador to Iran, the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands. From 1991 to 2001, he served as the Chinese permanent representative to the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. Hua earned a degree in Persian from Peking University and was one of the first Chinese students to learn Farsi. After graduating, Hua joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs serving as the Persian interpreter for many Chinese state leaders, including Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaopeng.
