Retired Brigadier General Jean-Paul Huet once served as commander of L’Unité française de vérification, the French unit responsible for the implementation of the Conventional Armed Forces Treaty in Europe (CFE) and the 1990 Vienna Document. The CFE Treaty was signed in 1990 by both NATO member states as well as then-Warsaw Pact nations and was intended to facilitate the comprehensive and verifiable reduction of conventional arms. The CFE Treaty marked a significant turning point, as nations from both sides of the Cold War sought to negotiate a downsizing of modern arms. Huet has also served as director of criminal affairs within the French Ministry of Justice.
